'Ecstacy' was originally created in Germeny before 1920, based on research from the 1890's. Then rediscovered in lab notes by US researchers after WWii. Then used for therapy and/or a possible 'truth serum' by their armed forces, and later still (but quietly) by civilian mental health agenices for 'marriage counselling' (yep..!) and as 'the word got out' (so to speak) it reemerged as a 'recreational' choice amongst those who knew. There were small amounts of this included in bottles of 'mood enhancer' vapours in the 1970's in the UK (from 'adult' stores) before it eventually became a controlled substance.
