The MUSUBI part of the spam musubi is Japan’s influence. Spam was part of the rations (brought in by the US military) consumed by the local plantation workers and was eventually made into spam musubi.

No. Spam was developed before WW2 and tons and tons of it were sent to our military which in turn would introduce it to pacific islands. Hawaii being part of the USA already had spam. The curious thing about it was how many countries became truly reliant on it like the UK and Russia during wartime.

as a southeast asian who lives in southeast asia i disagree about it being "part of asian culture" because a can of spam is very expensive here. from money that costs spam we can buy 1 kg of chicken. so yeah most of us cannot afford it for daily meal. sardine in tomato sauce and corned beef though, those are way cheaper.
i think it's more like a culture for east asians (japanese and south korean in their respective countries) and asian diaspora in western country like usa.

Japan didn't introduce Spam to Hawaii. it got to Japan (Okinawa most notably), Hawaii, and most other places Spam is used through the WWII rations and US military installments. a Japanese woman in Hawaii did invent spam musubi so that's perhaps what you were thinking when telling the origin story.
