There is one safe way – it worked for me – to kick alcohol addiction without serious health risks, terrible pain, or even significant discomfort: tapering off it. (Disclaimer: This method should only be used if, for whatever reason, medically assisted withdrawal is not a possibility, never as an alternative to it.)
Yes, one CAN taper off alcohol. Anyone who tells you differently has their own agenda or dogma. It takes discipline, but it works.
First, tally the number of drinks you have each day. Then, reduce your daily number of drinks by one each following day. If you really need to have the same number for two consecutive days, do so, but don't go up! (However, if you do go up, don't quit! Get back with the program!)
The key is to remember that this regimen is not to "party," it is to spare you the terrible pain and risks of sudden withdrawal. Fill your days with activity! Do housework, take long walks; any ACTIVE thing that takes your mind off the bottle, rather than sitting and stewing, craving your next drink.
If you stick with this program, you will taper down to where you are no longer addicted to alcohol. To where abruptly stopping drinking means a mild hangover one morning, not an unspeakable and unbearable horrible feeling, D.T.s, and cold sweats for as many as seven days.
Trust me, it works.
Wtf ?
A hangover is a milder an less severe form of withdrawal.
The science behind the neurological cause of Alcohol Use Disorder has moved on in the past 100 years, Unfortunately, the treatment largely has not.
Abstinence and withdrawal are completely unnecessary and a very ineffective way of treating Alcohol Use Disorder – with a long term so called "success" rate of between 5-8%.
Time to embrace the revolutionary evidence based treatment known as "The Sinclair Method" aka Pharmacological Extinction.
The Sinclair Method does not require the patient to go through withdrawals or force abstinence for the rest of their lives.
The Sinclair Method has a clinically proven success rate of 78% and is backed by over 40 years of research and over 120 clinical trials.
Abstinence is NOT the only way, neither is it the most effective. Research The Sinclair Method.
5 years sober now and i feel great with no more DTs and hangovers with seizures. That is a horrible way to live and I lived it for years. Thank you Lord for delivering me from that bondage
Benzos are worse than alcohol and even harder to quit.
Would it be safe to quit cold turkey if you're a weekend drinker?
Ease off with beer tappering off slowly decreasing beer everyday
I'm never going to give up drinking alcohol… They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, "No, no, no".
Tone deaf. Laughing about being hungover while ppl are looking at this video to be sober? This guy is as mature as my teenagers.
Thank you for sharing. my kind of information
I'm on day 18 alcohol free.
Great vid. Nice and clear. I need to taper, in a country that throws us into communist-style prison hospitals if we admit ourselves. Just. Need. To . Taper. Swimming and exercise are the best way to move forward. Plus the mild benzos and anti-seizure meds (Carbamazepine).
Wait, why are you laughing about being hungover trying to help people get sober?!
Wow, thank you for sharing! I really like the way you phrase things here. A key point that i know will really positively impact my life is,
"youre stuck with your body and you've got to get along with yourself"
A big reason i personally drink is bc of the self hate. I'm 32 and i know i have to face this. Telling myself "i'm stuck with this body" kind of feels like i'm disconnecting one from the other, if that makes sense. For example, just bc i hate myself doesn't mean i get to treat my body like this. Which then can allow me to focus on what i can do to help this "body im stuck with" instead of feeling like I have to make it through each day with this body. IDK perspective is key!
You guys never talk about the extreme, extreme cravings. It feels impossible to resist.
Remember, No one likes a quitter.
Hi, I am in treatment now for alcohol dependency, but I also suffer from depression and anxiety, I am not like most other people who suffer from this, I am in full time work. My main concern is that I have to deal with multiple agencies, and yet still keep a full time job. It is getting hard for me to deal with everything, and yet, keep my head above board
Doctor won't give me ativan. Hospital would not help. So I bought 2mg Xanax bars one time from a paramedic friend.
It worked but I would rather have lorazapam from a doctor.
Any advice for someone waiting for a detox bed? Whos had prior seizures? Thank you
Interesting to receive info on Alcohol withdrawal from a doctor with a hangover. So Aussie!!!
My story: I was a binge drinker for 50 years. How did I stop drinking so easily? I skipped the counseling and anonymous platitudes. I went to my doctor. He gave me a choice of two remedies. The monthly injection of Vivitrol or the daily 50mg tablet of naltrexone. I took the tablets for 30 days to detox and almost immediately lost the cravings for beer. Losing the cravings was as easy as taking Motrin for muscle aches. Mark me safe from alcohol
I went to hospital two days ago with alcohol withdrawals. They sent me home. I'm waiting to do a home detox. I've been drinking heavily for 10 days. The doctor who saw me said I wasn't in withdrawal. I'm terrified of keeping drinking at home alone until I have to detox.
Going to rehab in 4 weeks 😮😢
The last time was the last time for me. I had terrible withdrawal after going on a weeklong bender of about 30 oz of liquor per day. I was in absolute agony. Went to my GP, who prescribed Librium (chlordiazapoxide). It took me from hell to wonderful relaxation. I think the dose was 25 or 50 mg. Thank God for that stuff.
"You gotta get along with yourself. That requires a lot of work" and OMG if I didn't feel so seen! LOL
The benzo withdrawal will crush you more than the withdrawal from alcohol
..My daughter is 7 days in, and still feels like crap..
Thank you man, I’m 25 and realize I have a problem. This helps get the process started.
In the UK, a GP will not help at all, they simply direct you to a recovery service which takes weeks to months to access. Despite the fact they could prescribe Chlordiazapoxide to be recieved daily at the chemist each day. This truly is a dying country. Hospital is our only option here. Just info to save time for my fellow English counterparts.
What a poignant paragon of virtue you are. Hungover, giving advice … there's a word for that. Especially the giggle you exhaled. I don't mean to sound so combative, I just think you shouldn't have opened like that. Studies show that even low to moderate intake of acetyl will invade and damage ANY cell in the body.
However at leaast you're trying to help the afflicted. Sorry for thye vitriol, … I've had a close friend recently die from Delerium Tremens.
the part of the withdrawal equation you left out was how alcohol also inhibits glutamate, which leads to an increase in the amount of excitatory glutamate receptors. i think the firing of these excitatory neurotransmitters are also what causes the rapid heart beat, high blood pressure, panic attacks, etc.
I’ve been drinking heavy for 40 years now. Only on weekends though. I don’t drink whatsoever Sunday to Thursday . Is this a problem? Or just enjoying partying every weekend?
Please keep up your videos. I have a 45 y.o. Son and it’s helpful to hear an almost psychiatrist teach
Not enough psychiatrists in the world to help our loved ones
Thanks
Come here for help & you say you're hungover ' really dude?
