실제로 2000년대 초반까지만 하더라도, 악덕 고용주가 동남아시아나 중앙아시아에서 온 외국인노동자들을 심지어 물리적으로도 학대했던 일들이, 뉴스에 종종 나왔다.
그러나 그로부터 20여년이 지난 지금, 그런 몰지각한 세대는 노년층이 되었고 한국의 사회분위기도 한층 성숙돼, 그런 일들은 없다.
그러나 저 여자의 말처럼, 여전히 남녀노소를 막론하고 한국인들은 물질만능주의, 외모지상주의를 맘속에 강하게 지니고 있는 편이다.
10여년전에는 아프리카 난민 500여명을 수용하는 문제가 대두되었을때, 한국에서는 국민적인 반대여론이 일어났을 만큼, 아직 한국 대중들은 어려운 사람들에 대한 관용적인 태도가 무르익지 못 했다.
그리고 한국인들이 백인들에 대해서는 다소 맹목적으로 우호적인 태도를 쉽게 갖는 것도 사실이긴 하다.
물론 한국인들은 다소 내향적인 성향이므로, 그런 차별적인 태도를 어지간해서는 내색하진 않는다. 그러나 꽤 오랜 시간 체류하다보면 몇번은 섭섭한 일을 겪을 수는 있는 정도이긴 하다.
여하튼 나는 한국인이지만, 저 여자의 말이 따끔하긴 하나 대체로 사실로 받아들인다.

As an Indian I'm happy that Korea is racist because here girls after 2020 are mad at g@ys after watching BTS. But India is not poor and rank more in GDP but facing huge illegal immigrants from poor Bangladesh and Pakistan.
