The Manhattan Dominion Rd, remember the phones and the tokens to get a drink.
Growing up in Kura in the 80s , Friday night would The Farmer til 10pm, The White House til 11, then the Forge. Then Work on Saturday morning. Saw Dr Feel-good at the Forge then the Gluepot that same week.
The bar top from bar ontop of Code, the met bar? the green jade looking bar top was moved to a bar in grey lynn which was named back then as radarz bar. Now known as The greylynn tavern.
Man what a channel. This is the 2nd vid Im wayching tonight. Great stuff watching my younger years hangout outs and memories.
Shakers towards the end was a nite of awful guaranteed violence, gang fights, saw some awful stuff. Saw Jurassic 5 at the Powerstation, what a treat.
When Alfies became Cube…(after it was G.A.Y) Shiney used to run the place. He showed us how to get from the smoking area into Code so we would sneak from one to the other and back again all the time. It was a great way to see as many DJs as possible.
OMG I grew up in Papakura and had a VERY misspent youth at the Forge.
I got hit over the head by a bouncer who thought I was breaking into my own car when I was just trying to fix it in the parking lot.
I got asked for ID on my way out of the club and responded…"Bloody hell Lincoln what are you gonna do…throw me back in?"
The floor exploding to house of pains Jump around.
The cage infront of the dance floor usually filled with either drunk 16yro girls or pissed 18yro rugby players.
Thursday night hat night…
I could go on.
I remember that club called the mother ship. Was called Suite 16
I remember The Globe as my local when I was a student in the mid 90s.
Solid Boys – one of the main doormen at the power-station/asylum was Mike GENT RIP! Very professional Operator studied NINJUTZU and was quite handy. Shakers bar had bouncers Clay and Auckland lol and a young CKB dougie we were all Leegar then. Manhattan was were all the cookies went and the FORGE was Kura's BaliHai of Mangere lol Both Sniper Clubs where you got bottled or smashed over regularly
Id always get denied from Float by the same particular bouncer šš
Don't think it was LTJ Bukem that did the free gig at FU, was Bryan Gee & DJ Marky that did the free gig in the small side of FU on the Monday night
[47:38] Leftfield
[36:00] wasnt it Cardiac at one point
Is there a nightclub scene nowadays? I just dont see it anymore
Dont think we didn't catch the stolen Peter Santanello style of intro š
I donāt know if I can remember all the names but I can remember working in a lot of places around there and you could actually do a loop up high street and down queen street. Met and code on Shortland st then deschlers on high street was a great dive bar then and above that was rakinos then heading up high street there was a hip hop club on the right I canāt remember the name of it for the life of me and then up the very top was Asta.
I remember when I worked in code and they tried to open up that alley as a smoking area. Think it lasted 6 weeks before council shut it down but we still used it as staff smoko area.
I used to live above B bar on commerce street in the dodgy old apartments with lots of dodgy old DJs hahaha.
But yeh itās cool what you guys are showing because half the names I donāt recognise even at age 33 but I guess thereās a generation after me that wonāt know, carpark, Lennin, supper, forte, flight, hitch, pony, spy etc.
DJ Sir-Vere, absolute legend and a truly awesome person, always had good interactions with him at Beat Merchants. 30:27 people that weren't there at the time don't realise how much work Fast Crew put in before they had their first music videos etc, their name is synonymous with Fubar for me, they built a following organically. Sir-Vere's respect for them says it all.
I wonder if he ever went to Ink lol
Crow bar the biggest loss for Auckland hands down
u should get a couple of DJ's of that era, and do a club walk through, and the bouncers
Seeing this reminds me of the night me che, kapisi(Bran Muffin) Joey Schuster, china man chu, tuffy culture & Jonny sagala were outside for one of the gigs damn native were performing brings back memories of that place.
Salute all those who hung around Yifaans & bus depot tagging & fighting…RSBs, CCBs, etc
Forge was good in the 90s..Club Poly, DJ Fly at Roma, crowbar, keelys, Glue Pot etc
Base bar Wednesday nights. Or Thursday or Friday and Saturday.
No phones just personality needed to pull the honeys
Wow… The Powerstation used to be a restaurant called Dirty Dick's. Me and a mate saw a RUN DMC concert here when the restaurant closed and became The Galaxie. Cool history watch.
Ryan M jr. Mum and dad Ardijah
I remember the Army Boys use to drink there Wednesday to Friday nights as did a lot of Premier Rugby League players, a nice spot to drink back in the days, I remember George Mann saving my ass from getting a hiding šššš
"Alfie's" š me first night club 87" awesome times great memories ā¤
I remember Saia(spelling?) fondly! Such a funny dude and was big on boom sounds
Great to see Phil B on this video. You look well uso. I think I still have that tape you did for me long long time ago. Great to see you still doing DJ. Slow Jamz Rulz ššÆ
Love this series bro, cool af to hear all the stories from the real ones
OMG.
I remember so many great gigs at The Power Station in the 90ās and early 00ās. I think I even saw my first ever Shakespearean play here while I was doing 6th form at Long Bay College. Simon Prast played Hamlet. But also loads of fab music.
Also Fu Bar and Alfieās. Epic nights were had thereā¦always after other places were done, weād end up there. š Another amazing nostalgia tour mate. Thanks boys. šā„ļø
I remember all these nightclubs, but some had different names. I havenāt been out to one in ages and I do believe Boogie Wonderland was the last one I went to. Awesome place and we dressed up as a night out to Wonderland required it.
Correct me if Iām wrongā¦but wasnāt Club Roma originally Aladdinās and Club 21 on the corner of Queens Street back in the day. John Tabla – I might be spelling his name wrong, was the owner/operator. This was the place I was able to get into without too much trouble. The guys on the door knew me and I knew – back in the day – the guys in the band, Rock Candy. A US singer by the name of Margaret Love would sing there between sets on some nights. Those were the days when I lived out in Mangere and I would catch a bus into town – with a stop in either Onehunga or Otahuhuā¦no car back thenš¤¦š»āāļø Funny how far 40 bucks would get you. If you stayed all night long, you had to hitch a ride to as close as possible to home and then catch the last bus or a taxi. I never told my parent where I was going but Iām sure they knewā¦Aladdinās use to have fancy dress nights. Canāt remember what for but who cares when youāre having fun. I went as a Playboy Bunny only because my mother had a white rabbit fur coat and I had a white swim suitā¦with my bunny ears and tail tucked nicely under my coatā¦off I trotted to the bus stop around the corner from my house. Two things about wearing whiteā¦never wear it to a wedding – didnāt know that at 18/19 years old and a white swim suit is see through under lightsš¤·š»āāļøā¦who would have known. Not me!
The was a nightclub upstairs on Customs or Quay Street, my memory is a little dodgy on this one as I didnāt go to it all that often – maybe twice. It was called Drascoās. My spelling could be off on this one as well. This place was huge and there was a huge set of windows looking out across the harbour.
Manhattanās was a place I really liked because of the telephones. Definitely a head of the times in that department. As you walked in the main doors after getting your hand stamped the booth styled seats and tables were on the right up against the windows which were āblackedā out or frosted. The seating/booths had height backs so you felt enclosed. One other thing that has never left my memory was the time our car died at the traffic lights and the policeman behind us pushed us through a red light. Thank goodness it was later and there wasnāt any other traffic at that time. We laughed and the so did the cop. Fun times had by allā¦there were so many nightclubs in Auckland City. I do believe there was a place on Fort Street called the Forge.
So many fun times were had way back in the day in the late 70ās and early 80āsā¦super cool!
Tapas Bar ,Cactus Jacks
This brings back memories, the Forge was the 1st Niteclub i went to in late 80's. Bouncer I new from Broncos go so drunk there he shit his pants standing at the bar. Later the best club in Manukau was the Colosseum.
Huge follower of Roger Perry back in the day this is huge time back then forever grateful for talking about a legend back then his skills were off the chart.. was the hardcore dancer back then.. bahahaha. The dress code was always important. Cant even get a sound track from this gem Roger Perry so sad. Thanks Dj Siir-vere great memories of Queen street city life
Awesome video, good memories…im from the Drasco era…hearty. Cheers for this channel.
