If you use NAC for detoxing Mycotoxin from the liver when the liver releases all that toxin, you can get brain fog and flue like symptoms.
I take nac daily. Been taking it for 4 months straight. and while I can agree with the sentiment of a feeling of calmness, I am by far not numbed by it.
Perhaps this is because I am a little high strung naturally. However as was stated above, some of us are so used to overstimulation that feeling calm could be seen as a side effect.
Another side note, the case study he mentioned the guy was admittedly a drug user, I was a heavy drug user, 3 years clean. But the regulation on the dopamine receptor could definitely feel like user is “numb”.
I’m personally glad not to have massive dopamine spikes, I feel I am much more deliberate with my thoughts and actions because of it.
I see this in my daughter now. No enjoyment n looks dreadful after covid n needed nac to stop a major lung infection. The fall out of nac is what looks like flat, depressive etc. very worrying but she is super sensitive. I will look at dopamine supplements w tryptophan 10 to 1 ratio. It is a real problem
Lol nac causes a detox effect at first could feel like trash for a couple weeks depending on how backed up you are with toxins. Ppl give up too easy
NAC is not a food supplement; it's a drug design for short term usage. There is no data for long term consumption.
Any cell with a nucleus must maintain a balance between oxidation and reduction (redox), one of the functions of glutathione is to be an intracellular antioxidant. The proponents of NAC ignore the fact that not knowing how much antioxidant action is required, most probably NAC end up being a PRO-oxidant!!, which is equally BAD, i.e., not achieving a balance but tilting the balance in the opposite direction…
The natural mechanism for the production of glutathione is to provide any cell with the precursors of glutathione so the cell decides how much glutathione to synthesize. The precursors are: glycine, glutamate, and cysteine. Cysteine must be in the form of CYSTINE which is a "dysulfide" amino acid containing two cysteine molecules connected by their sulfur atoms. These natural precursors are available in any mammalian (mother's) milk. This milk should be UNPASTEURIZED, otherwise the dysulfide bond is broken.
A quick query to PERPLEXITY at PERPLEXITY.AI
QUERY: in a REDOX environment, what happens when antioxidants increase too much.
ANSWER:
In a redox (reduction-oxidation) environment, an excessive increase in antioxidants can lead to a phenomenon known as reductive stress, which can be as harmful as oxidative stress. This imbalance can have several negative consequences on cellular functions and overall health.
Reductive Stress
When antioxidants are present in excessive amounts, they can disrupt the delicate balance between oxidation and reduction in cellular environments. This leads to a state of reductive stress, where the cellular environment becomes overly reduced. Reductive stress can be just as detrimental as oxidative stress, and has been linked to various health issues, including:
1)Cancer
2)Cardiomyopathy
3)Disruption of normal cellular functions
Prooxidant Activity
Paradoxically, high concentrations of antioxidants can cause them to act as prooxidants, promoting oxidative stress rather than alleviating it3. This occurs because:
Antioxidants may react with transition metals, generating more reactive species
They can interfere with the body's natural antioxidant defense systems.
At high concentrations, some antioxidants can undergo autoxidation, producing reactive oxygen species (ROS).
Disruption of Cellular Signaling
Free radicals, in moderate amounts, play essential roles in cellular signaling and function. An overabundance of antioxidants can interfere with these processes by:
1)Neutralizing beneficial concentrations of ROS required for optimal cellular functioning
2)Disrupting cell-to-cell communication
3)Interfering with the metabolism and breakdown of drugs
Impaired Adaptive Responses
Excessive antioxidant intake can hinder the body's natural adaptive responses, particularly in the context of exercise:
1)It can prevent the activation of Nrf2, a key transcription factor involved in antioxidant defense.
2)High doses of antioxidants may impair exercise-induced adaptations, such as improvements in cardiorespiratory function.
3)Supplementation can interfere with mitochondrial biogenesis and muscle hypertrophy
Increased Oxidative Damage
Counterintuitively, high doses of antioxidants can sometimes lead to increased oxidative damage:
1)Studies have shown that vitamin E supplementation can increase lipid peroxidation following high-intensity resistance training
2)In some cases, antioxidant supplementation has been associated with increased plasma protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation in well-trained athletes.
In conclusion, while antioxidants are essential for maintaining redox balance, excessive amounts can lead to reductive stress, prooxidant activity, disrupted cellular signaling, impaired adaptive responses, and even increased oxidative damage. This underscores the importance of maintaining a balanced redox environment and obtaining antioxidants primarily through a varied, nutrient-rich diet rather than high-dose supplements.
So funny. I noticed i have little response to an occasional drink.
Maybe "anhedonia" is a good thing, in this hedonistic culture?
Thanks, BYB! I was wondering why I wasn't feeling the old vibes of my favorite songs. NAC could be the culprit. I'm currently taking 2000 mg daily. Should I cut down to 1000 mg?
I have not had any side effects from supplementing NAC. My mood is steady and positive, and I forgot I ever had asthma.
This is an amazing supplement. No negatives for me…..quite the reverse…..
So it makes me "meh" if I drink, smoke and do all this "healthy" stuff?!
Shut up and take my money!
Line of Cocaine explaines the whole story.
Ive been taking nac on and off for a few months now. Im a smoker with a chest wheeze i also drink a fair bit. I generally take it at midday and ive definitely felt significantly more numb less bothered. Feel it has helped my chest so will carry on taking it but at night now. Cheers for the info
Have these people also taken MDMA as well at some point? There's a good chance that previous drug use is responsible in part.
NAC helps people slow down on drinking and other drugs that are habit forming
People getting mad because they're meth ain't working anymore
. Well it's helped me out alot. I'm an addict, and it's been very beneficial and I don't get a numbing affect from it. Quite opposite actually
pull your eyes away from your phone screen and go for a walk , that will calm overstimulation and the made up condition that is ADHD
I just had 1200mg. And I feel great! I’ve been taking it with no ill effects for another teen yers nw.
Ithin fi die, kid,r Ruidoso rk,r k rk,me,,……. …. . .. .
I'm 59 and I've been taking NAC for a while 2400mg. I've also almost doubled my caffeine intake. The caffeine's effect is very blunted. The interesting thing is that I never crash from caffeine. My mood is much more level, trust me I'm one moody
person. And my mood is better.
I only take 750mg once a day. Feel fine. Just don't over do it.
When I take NAC before bed, it leads to dreams about my past and the lifestyle I am trying to move away from.
I don’t know how any of these side effects are actually DANGEROUS.
Thank goodness my energy levels, mood and motivation have never been better. I’ve been taking NAC with glycine for a year and my skin has never looked better either.
Thanks!!!
