I just can't agree with your lecture at 8:00. A neurotypical person would not have to pick a chunk of the day to struggle with.
This is one of the best informative videos that I have seen, so thank you. to be real Honest, i dont believe none of us need any of this medicine, or at least very Very few we weren't made and designed to need anything, except what we were born with and for 99% of people It's a crutch, or an excuse. The right food, an exercise. Can take care of almost anything.
I take 60 mgs a day instant release but find breaking mine into 15 mg increments helps me to make it all the way through the day. I work 10-12 hrs a day and do online classes
Tracey is straight killing it out here! 👏🏻👍🏻🤘🏻
I don't like the attitude I see or maybe I'm projecting seems like a provider you seem hesitant to prescribe adderrall. Like bad experiences with those who abuse the medication and ruin it for those that truly respect the drug worsening the shortage or out of stock situations all over the us
Many of my fellow Firefighters use this on duty. We can’t be on top of our game or something really bad could happen
I'm not on aderall, im on ritalin. I crashed every day for a few weeks, and found it next to impossible to sleep, but after a few weeks these side effects stopped and im really glad i stuck to it. Im so glad i found a doctor who actually took me seriously. Remember, the same drug can have different effects depending on how fast it is released. I tried long acting ritalin to see if it was better than short acting ritalin and it made me incredibly paranoid, but when i went back to the quick release version i was fine again. Good luck, all you adhders, love you all!
Anyone here just have an 8 hour day? Anyone?
Do you wanna hear something funny?

There was a point in my rather recent past I started to pay attention to these 4 things. (I stopped paying attention to them about 2 months ago now that I think about it) I felt really good, depression was lower, I felt overall nice.
Skip ahead to now. I don't do any of these things anymore. I feel hopeless again. Maybe it's just me, I think. I don't deserve happiness.
My daughter is having withdrawal symptoms from Adderall for 10days already. Depressed, Very tired, wants to vomit. She was only taking 10mg for about 3 weeks. What should she do?
I really appreciate these videos Not having annoying background music, however, I wish the annoying sound effects would be eliminated.
really great overview. thanks
I'm a married woman with 2 small children living in the Bible belt. There will be no adjustments in expectation.
This stuff should really be illegal. Doctors do not tell you the side effects, withdrawals, interactions etc. it's all about cha-ching. Close cousins to crystal meth. SMH.
I just want to sleep tf is this
I don’t have a crash, I have an “adderall stretch” where i can experience longer periods of focus after the drug leaves my system. I used to have a depressive crash but now I’m taking antipsychotics and lithium for bipolar 1 so maybe it’s that?
Adderall XR for me works well at the 10mg dosage, as needed, since I don't really feel it is necessary on days where I don't really "need my brain". It lasts almost 12 hours, so if I take it at 9am, I will feel it wear off and feel like "myself" again at 9pm – might prevent me from sleeping for an hour or two after that 9pm mark. I also find that 30mg makes me want to nap lol the paradoxical effect is strange
This explains a lot, thank you so much, Dr. Marks!
I was diagnosed at 33, after years of taking different antidepressants. Venlafaxine and bupropion helped most, but never to the point of, well… functioning normally.
Then my psychiatrist suggested that it might be ADHD.
She prescribed MPD 50mg XR, and for the first time in YEARS I was really calm. For the first time in my life, I was able to meditate. However, with time I felt that 50 mg was too much, so I switched to a lesser dose. I ended up with 20 mg, and then there was a shortage!
So… I just had to quit cold turkey. Surprisingly, I haven't noticed any particular withdrawal symptoms.
Then my doc prescribed me Adderall, and it was incredible. It helped me VERY much through some very difficult time. Unfortunately, I've developed tolerance after almost a year, and I upped the dose to 30 mg twice or thrice a day. I feel like it's too much and I need to lower. I am dreading to do it, but the rebound effect is really bad, it affects my life not in a good way. It wears off after about an hour or two, but still… It is so sudden and strong, oof!
I am going to talk to my doctor about it. I hope I can find a solution, because at this point I have no idea how to tell between Adderall wearing off, ADHD, the normal response to a chronic stress I am going through, and my personality that has always been kinda way too sensitive and sad.
Where was this information in the beginning of my journey!?
Amphetamine worst drug ever made
High quality, concise content. Thank you very much 🙏🏽
The fact we're talking about "coverage" for the day just sounds sketchy as shit. I'm on Day 2 of Adderall and it just does not seem worth it. I don't want to have to depend on this pill and I had a very lousy few nights of sleep.
As a psychiatrist myself who was diagnosed with ADHD, after watching this I just can't believe it. The categorical way she is describing the psychopatology of ADHD is astonishing. No, the thing she's explaining about neurotransmitters isn't real, period. And the way she describes the meds in general are non realistic. Please, anyone with ADHD diagnosis try to reach a psychiatrist tha doesn't emphasize so strongly on drugs, and most important: that they Don't paternalistically lie. An inherent right of the individual is to be informed about medication that are being offered. We don't know what's the psycopatology of this that we call ADHD. Lies are the first stop to the bus stop that the opiod crisis is being. Important: easy and fast solutions aren't a thing, time, patience and self compassion and self knowledgement are essential.
It drains certain vitamins in your body. That may be causing negative effects. Another thing you could take is Alpha brain in between the side effects.
I was diagnosed for adhd yesterday. Thank you for this informative and well thought out presentation.
It’s SPEED!! Of course there’s a crash. This is especially true for kids who get it for the benefit of the school system. The kid crashes when they get out of school and have to do homework. 😵💫
Summary: (Rephrased carefully … but please double check.)
Stimulants, and especially higher doses of stimulants, can have a more or less pronounced “comedown” effect on some people when they wear off. This is a withdrawal effect because of declining levels of dopamine and norepinephrine.
Besides the commonly experienced focus decrease, distractibility and lower productivity, this can mean depressed mood, hopelessness, irritability, extreme fatigue (cannot move or get out of bed), and trouble sleeping, even when physically tired. Also, feeling very anxious or nauseous. And some people want to isolate and not talk to others (have nothing to say), having a sort of weird social shutdown feeling.
It lasts until next day, maybe one or two days, and for low mood or antisocial feelings maybe even days to weeks.
Adderall / Amphetamines can have a stronger comedown effect, while Ritalin / Methylphenidate is gentler / kinder. (They work differently. Adderall increases the available dopamine & norepinephrine, while Ritalin prevents their re-uptake, making them more available.)
What helps?
Don’t overmedicate:
Don’t overextend your medicated hours / work day. The brain and body need a comedown period after work and 7 to 9 hours of sleep. There should only be 8 hours of work, supported by medication, per day. (These could possibly be split into two periods of 4 hours, when using immediate release medications.)
Sleep: stop taking ADHD meds 8 hours before going to bed. And some sort of sleep medication can help overcome the natural sleep problems of ADHD — check with your doctor.
Hydrate: drink about half your body weight in pounds converted to ounces per day, that is about 3.1% of your body weight in kg. (80 kg body weight -> 2.48 kg (or liters) of water per day.)
Diet: eat as much unprocessed food as possible, to get important nutrients. That includes vegetables, grains (if possible) and healthy fat, to maximize Omega-3 and antioxidants.
Exercise: 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week, or 75 minutes of high intensity exercise. This has an antidepressant effect.
Notes: Adderall releases more dopamine than Ritalin. But not suitable for all. If u get anxiety, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure on CNS stimulating drugs then Ritalin can give less such side effects than Adderall. Understand No One is supposed to do high intensity mental tasks the entire day. Take breaks, reward, switch places, move, walk, exercise, music, fun, games. Choose to take drugs only when you actually need.
Sleep, Diet, Fluid, Exercise: no 2nd dose, after 2/3 pm. stay hydrated, avoid unprocessed foods, 150 or 75 minutes f exercise a week.
There's a great line in Kurt Vonnegut's " Deadeye Dick " about amphetamines being " safe unless discontinued ."
I have never been with a ADHD person who ever actually stops talking
This video lacking in useful information and the approach to ADHD as just a lack of dopamine and norepinephrine is an out of date and out of touch idea. People with ADHD have a deficit in multiple neurochemicals which affect not just behaviour but their mental processing, recall and working memory. Have you psychiatrists ever thought that dynorphin could be made in surplus which is the strongest acting brain chemical against dopamine? Also glutamate is necessary to make dopamine and norepinehrine work so why wasn't glutamate a target to increase the effectiveness of lower doses of ritalin and dex? Why aren't you researchers and psychiatrists actually considering that you need a multi pronged pharmaceutical approach to finding a true brain balance for those with ADHD. Because the research shows that though this singular medication approach improves the lives of those with ADHD; sufferers will still fall far short of the neurotypical on average life outcomes. Time you guys stopped the dopamine and norepinephrine deficit bs argument and looked more solidly at adhd and its wider mental deficits as needing treatment instead of just the ways the condition impact the lives of neurotypicals such as parents and teachers whing about tardiness, poor behaviour and lack of attention and seeking to minimising their complaints.
Psychosis is needed to stimulate the economy..
I don’t get a crash. I just go back to baseline. My baseline isn’t great, so it is noticeable, like going back to chewing up my mouth. What I want to know is, why do I get slowed down for the first hour or so following taking it? Because I take immediate release, I get slowed down twice a day.
I’m curious if there is a crash for people that take the dosage highlighted in this video, but not for those who take a third of it like myself?
I was diagnosed with ADHD since I was 9yrs old and I'm 24 now. When my mom told my family doctor that my school wanted to put my on adderal he said a firm NO. so I've never taken drugs for it and I never will. I've managed to operate well in my life and instead of being behind I'm actually well ahead of my peers cause I focused on the things I'm actually good at and created an environment that suits me so I can thrive.
Vyvanse was the worst …. Hands down.
This is over prescribed. SUD and severe emotional disturbance/liability. I've seen the most inappropriate patients on stimulants.
This doctor is describing an INSANE lifestyle!
It’s called stay off of drugs…. Stop using it….. yall don’t realize that your making the Adderall drugged fueled mind become the standard……
I almost died from Adderall. It’ll give you methamphetamine, abuse, psychosis, or MAP
Don’t take extended and normal release together because the half-life will overlap
Adderall is the most dangerous drug that has been MASS prescribed to a generation, the effects of its over prescribing will be a problem that the USA in particular may never overcome. Delusions, paranoia and depressions are severe CHRONIC side effects that the medical community REFUSES to acknowledge the correlation & esp.the causation. While the rest of the globe barely uses Adderall on its children the USA has decided to use an entire generation of zoomers & millennials as the guinea pigs for a medical experiment that will lay waste to an entire country. Adderall is the most dangerous drug outside Fent; Addiction, increased libido, dopamine damage, delusions, psychosis and paranoia are the side effects that Adderall provides outside the “focus”. THERE ARE MANY alternatives to Adderall that are SAFE & not addictive!! Straterra, Modafinil, Racetams like Aniracetam WORK for ADHD without destroying the dopamine receptors in the brain & provide the same benefits to varying degrees WITHOUT the side effects. MY ADVICE TO ANY PARENT : NEVER GIVE ADDERALL TO YOUR KID UNTIL U TRY IT YOURSELF.
Would you allow your kid to take meth? IF THE ANSWER IS NO THEN DON’T GIVE THEM ADDERALL!
It is pretty close to street Meth!!!!
I wish I had this video during Dental School
The highs and the lows it doesn't sound good
I love aderall
Male, 5’11, Adult.
Took my first Adderall pill 30 minutes ago. The extended release version.
Thing is my pill bottle says “Amphetamine Resin Complex.” There’s zero information on what that even means on online.
The paperwork that came with the medication has TWO different names on it:
1) Ampetamine Resin Complex XR
2) Dextroamphetamine/Amphetamine Extended Release
In the appointment a few days ago my physc told me she was prescribing me Adderall XR. I’m confused by all these different names.
Also, my actual pills all say “Lannett.”
So far I don’t feel anything. It’s only 10mg. But can any Psychiatrists explain their thoughts? I have to wait a month to see my doctor again at the VA.
I love to talk I have narcissistic personality disorder and it's untreated cuz I don't have a therapist I have a psychiatrist but he only sees me for 15 minutes once a month and only deals with one issue per visit so if I go in for ADHD that's all he will deal with if I have anger with the ADHD he will not deal with the anger he does not look at the computer while he's talking to you he has a piece of paper in front of him and he takes handwritten notes that's what I like about him and that's why I keep him and it took me 4 years to find this doctor actually his first psychiatrist I've had since 2008 at that I went to Wisconsin had internal medicine for Primary Care who said I will prescribe all your medicines for every condition that you have including your ADHD and your panic attacks and your anxiety your bipolar and everything else all your mental health issues to your psychologist which I had she's supposed to be calling me sometime this week because she knows I don't have anyone to talk to and she says I want to talk to you for a little bit but I got to go through some I forget what she called it it's three days she has to go through for psychologist that they go through you know meetings and stuff but I had no one to talk to and I just talk like I'm doing now I've already left three comments now I got one more to add oh my God I need therapist
Doc I'm rewatching this video because now I finally back on Adderall 15 mg twice a day it's partially working I say from 100% no attention down to 45% no attention now my question is Ambien 12.5 milligrams cause me to sleep Drive does taking Ambien 5 mg or 10 mg will cause me to sleep Drive I was on ambient 10 mg for 10 years I never did that when the 12.5 came out my doctor switched me to that that's when I got in my car and drove it to McDonald's and walked home I also did the same thing with Chantix the first time I had Chantix I was living with my mother and I rearranged her kitchen in the middle of the night and don't remember doing it but my question is will the 5 mg or the 10 mg Ambien cause me to sleep Drive the sleep doctor will not give me Ambien my psychiatrist will not give me Ambien my psychiatrist will not give me diazepam for my anxiety to keep me from having panic attacks which I do have I have to ask him 5 mg for my neurologist for my seizures but that's one 5 mg every 3 days he gave me a new bottle and it says take one daily as needed so I was taking it more than once every 3 days but when I look at the medical records it says must last 90 days it didn't say that on the bottle and I sent my neurologist a message I said I'm down to 8 diazepam I will not drive my car if I don't have diazepam in my system I've already had one accident from seizure I'm not doing it again I've been seizure-free for 3 years now my seizures are from two scars on my brain from a car accident in 93 and a slip and fall and Sears on a concrete floor in 2004 but my seizure started with Wellbutrin in 2001 DJ the party 12 hours the night before I'm not a morning person back then everybody had to get up and be out by a certain time I heard that Wellbutrin had upper properties so I took two and that's when I had my seizure go back to my main question will taking 5 mg or 10 mg Ambien cause me to sleep drive with a side effect ?
I tried Adderall for a couple months. I had ZERO appetite and it spun me into a psychotic episode ( I have Bipolar 1) it's a really dirty feeling drug in my opinion. Trying to sleep was a nightmare and i made my chest feel really tight. Just an all around gross experience.
This woman said nothing. The best thing to do is to ween yourself off it before your life is ruined and it’s too late. Until then smoking weed is the only thing that works with the side effects.
I once ran a game night which turned into a 42 hour long continuous game… I was hallucinating and very creative. Unmedicated ADHD. 😢
