True story. Slot machine manufactures actually hire Neuroscientist and Psychologist to better find out what is the best way to program their machines with music or sounds or whatever that will best trigger the dopamine response in your brain. People who use to work for some of the largest slot manufactures have testified to that, its no secret. This is one trick they use.
You put in $5 in a slot and hit the button. Say you get back $3 so you lost $2 but the machine will react like you won and even say you won $3. This triggers the dopamine in your brain and gives you a small feeling of pleasure even thou you LOST. You hit that button 120 times an hour thats a pretty power full dose of dopamine. They know if they can get 5-10% of people seriously addicted they can make mass profits.
One more thing. There was a test done that used someone who took a hit of cocaine and then they took a gambling addict and had them play a slot machine. They took an MRI of both subjects brains and the part of the brain that regulates pleasure and dopamine were almost identical in both cases.
