Wow, Mark Hyman, please update your knowledge about the Women's Health Initiative! Hormones were not killing women! So much science has been looked at when they re-visited the pre-mature results that estrogen does NOT cause breast cancer… I respected everything about you until you said that comment. Please update your knowledge about women's Hormones.
I loved this podcast and the discussion about the effect on children. I made my three boys cook dinner one night a week, while they were growing up. They had to use at least three food groups (not including dessert), and they could use a cookbook or go online. It was great for them! Dinners got better as the competition for compliments increased. My husband and I each took a night, too. There were many ways it helped them, but this were some of the ways cooking at home impacted their futures.
The oldest spent a few years training pilots in the National Guard, and was very vocal when his trainees ate junk food and became unfit. (He is still very fit, and eats well.) The middle son was the most timid about trying new things, and he became confident in cooking, and learned to eat different foods. When he married, his wife couldn't cook, so he was a coach and cooked some himself. (She is now a great cook.) The youngest son was the star in cooking. He loves to cook, especially the most challenging meals, he grows his vegetables and some fruit, canning and freezing, and is constantly in tune with nutritional aspects of cooking. He calls me often to ask about 'substitutes' in recipes. Now with a family of his own, he is very strict about their eating balanced meals and no junk food. At this point, the 6 and 3 year old are satisfied with what they eat, and do not hound their parents for ultra processed foods. So, does it matter if parents emphasize good eating at home, in different ways? You bet. They may not be chefs, but this is a life skill that keeps on giving…to future generations.
That’s right I like that statement too. It’s not our fault regarding the food because this is what the industry has done to us.
The best exercises is squats, getting up and down on floor with out your arms help . Grip strength carrying our shopping. I must go to do nature bathing walking in nature. Lucky me to have the knowledge and apply it in every step in my life.
Iam highly qualified medical doctor don’t like gym and like out in nature. But the best money I spent is to go to gym and started to do weights , functional fitness classes , dancing for fitness.Ot is amazing how flexible, can cut my toes nails easily. To do resistance training is better with group. I have a big gym and sauna at home but it is better with others . Alone is bad and miserable.

Watching this in late spring 2024 and ouch… some of what Mark said didn't age well at all…😅. Talking about for instance the sirtuins and the womens health inititaive crap. I think this video needs a disclaimer, but then again that's the beauty of science. But some of this stuff is still right on the mark of course!

Pls do your research regarding the women health initiative regarding hiormone replacement therapy. HTRT.. So disappointmed with you, So many experts have criticized this misleading rapport. Ask Peter Atia and so so many experts .Do your research on the latest scientific research and what happened regarding the media hysteria back over 20 years ago. HRT is incredibly beneficial for many women if not all.

I am on FoodStamps (EBT) in the USA and I am only buy whole foods, raw fruit and vegetables and unprocessed food.
I always surprises me that you can not buy important toiletry items like toothpaste with food stamps, but you can buy "junk food" and sodas and all other kinds of super unhealthy foods.
It would be so helpful for peoples health if the restrictions for certain products on the EBT card would be extended to all super unhealthy foods and send simple recipes every month to the recipients of food stamps.
Really grateful for doctors like you and the holistc approach your are taking to healing and supporting us to become informed in order to manage our well being, In ,y early 70s I have been challenged by the idea that inflammation or similar tell tale signs have been atronisingly put down to being óld age'. Fortunately I have some time – not a lot of money – to research and discoverd a better path, sometimes with the help of traditional Chinese and ayurvedic support. I am also fortunate to have spent my early years in a small farming community here in New Zealand and absorbed a lot from a co muntiy that pridefully grew great gardens and lived in the rhythum of the seasons. But, as a result of post WWII influences and our eagerness to take on US farming trends our land and water (and we citizens) have all become contaminated and intensified. Our new government has been intent on maintaining a corporate relationship (read influence) with the US and any safeguards we had in terms of standards are disappearing despite an increasing recognition that factory farmed products are so destructive to the animals, land, water and us! Please keep up your wonderful crusades, and well informed work – you are the knights who will really save us, especially our young people with increasing diagnosis of unsual auto immune symptoms and learning difficulties. You can buy whole foods with food stamps, but they are more expensive and you don't get usually very much assistance for a month. It helps. It doesn't come close to covering the food you need for a month. And the taxes you pay all your life helps pay for the food stamps you may later receive when old or disabled or just in a hard place maybe due to health etc.
Many people think if they eat low calorie foods that they are eating healthy. No. All those supposedly low calorie processed foods usually have to much sugar, too much salt, too little fiber and bad seed oils, not to mention additives, preservatives, dyes, and chemicals that are dangerous and or bad for you. Emulsifiers, thickners, etc. Not healthy besides somtimes they actually lie about the calorie count. You don't have to be such a stickler that you never have sugar, never have anything processed or no fast foods ever, or go all vegan. Just learn how to eat better and choose foods that help people with your health problems whatever they are. Not a diet. A change of lifestyle. And a dietician or a person willing to reasearch healthy eating on utube can learn how to improve their health and their blood work. I always read several items on the same subject so i get different opinions. And actually look for information on new developments on whatever your health problems are. And focus on top notch doctors in their fields and famous clinics. Look for clinical studies that prove their claims. Don't ignore the guy who says we had it wrong in the past and i can prove it.
The third time i visited the doctor and he said you have prediabetes. I thought i don't want to go blind or have a leg amputated. And i was told earlier i have dementia and alzheimers. So i watched all kinds of videos on itube on the latest developments and the most notable doctors and clinic, like Mayo on these health problems. I especially was interested in the ones who say you can reverse or at least slow down these diseases. So i started little by little adding healthy foods and spices and almost completely cut out sugar and very few processed foods. This worked great in less than a month i was no longer prediabetic. But my next blood test showed my kidney GFR was 48, not good, and my liver creatine was too high, also my triglycerides was high, my cholesterol was high, my HDL good cholesterol was too low, my alkaline phosphste was high. So i really worked on my new healthy eating. I couldn't afford all this healthy stuff at once so i focused on two or three of the more expensive changes each month. The good news is that even though they are expensive many of these things only require a small amount so it lasts a long time. And i started finding all kind of healthy recipes from various diets; keto, Mediterranean, Dash, Calorie, and items proven to help with my health concerns. So three months later all of my bad or concerning lab results were normal and even good. My doctor said you can't reverse kidney disease, but the newest thinking is that in most cases even pretty seriously bad ones you can. So my GFR went from 48 to 78 in three months. So my kidneys are improving. I now need to lose weight and get regular exercise by walking. This is my new goal. Now that the weather is better im not as in as much pain with my back and knees and hands from arthritis. I have to sometimes walk with a cane or walker with a seat and my balance sometimes is an occasional problem. Im 64. My test at the doctor for alzheimers was real bad. But i asked to be tested again and i got 28 out of 30. This is good. I know my shirt term memory is not good. But i do great on Word Scapes and my mind is good for my age. My family say they are as bad as i am at short term memory. I think im a little worse but not much. I really strive to get my omega 3 fatty acids. No organs, but albacore, walnuts, clams, flax, chia seeds, hemp hearts. So i hope to improve or at the least almost stop the progress of my alzheimers.

Although Dr. Hyman is speaking so-called "eye-opening" information, but duh … where the hell has he and the medical/industrial/pharmaceutical/insurance complex been? Chasing that $$$ at the expense of the patient and families for generations. Now the buzz word is "functional" medicine.
I am so glad I don't subscribe to these ego clowns and have been my own doctor for over 50 years. Now it hasn't been easy, there have been hits and misses, ups and downs as I found my way but at least I didn't have someone deliberately leading me astray because they didn't want to be bothered, or were too proud to admit they didn't know so they wrote a Rx. It's not every doctor, but it's too many to cherry pick. If I had to see a doctor, I prefered dealing with the nurse or nurse practitioner who always gave me more and correct information along with little side tips than any doctor.

If you had a iNO-Genorator that could deliver 20ppm, it would help to restore the bodies shortfall, if you could get around the US patents, then you would need approval, you need a cohort of patients, an independent supervisor to run the trials, its been done, only one chemical form has ever made it, how can that supply the percentage of 7bn people that it could help, 25 years of scientific endeavour, over 20,000 peer review papers, it would be the biggest natural cure for numerous health issues, but we will never know. So sad.
