The actual problem of Asian societies is the "better you than me" mindset, where nearly everyone accepts the suffering of other people easily, as long as it is helpful for themselves.
Few people in Japan would risk their own feelings over other peoples' death. So the insane bullying in school, the mothers "selling" their little daughters to the new husband, is normal.
Errr, guys… You know that she was put in jail for selling fraud tutorials, right? The type of frauds that manipulate others' feelings so they can be exploited by her.
Her version of the story or testimony is not the most reliable thing you can trust blindly to pity her.

what I learned from this video is to never attend host clubs. they're all multi-level marketing scams abusing parasocial relationships and creating more monsters that repeat their abuse
a depressing case of host club addiction. all that money never brought her true happiness. she was never ever shown true kindness and caring as a child, then her “bf” aka the host guy played her like a fiddle. I cant believe he gave her all that friggin money oh my god. then she repeats the behavior to creepy old guys.
whats striking to me, is how sad and dead she is behind the eyes.

God Japan is so fucking toxic the culture is literally a toxic nightmarish cesspool it’s no wonder people like Mai exist and I don’t blame her in the slightest she’s been fucked over by society repeatedly off rip I just pray the poor gal will be able to pick up the pieces once she gets out.
I guess everyone's a victim afterall. You can sympathize with Mai, but saying that she's THE victim in the story, really tells how narrow-sighted most people are. All men who used her are also victims in their own stories.

While studying law we learn a legal system isn't failed, it works as it was designed to work, i.e, a legal system has the designe to give protection to the interests of the ones who hold power. Now, if a system punishs a young women, for getting money from s3x pervs with 9 years, and gives 7 years for a man for r word his daughter… these are the interests that the legal system is protecting, it works perfectly for what it was designed for.

imo the reason why she got such a harsh sentencing is that mai specifically targetted older men who the judges probably are too, which made them sympathise with the victims more than lets say, a 50 year old man who SAed children.
I wish I could read Japanese just so I could read her diary and her manual myself because I'm so damn curious about everything she says considering how she got 9 yrs for fraud and murders get less of a sentence it is mind boggling. Also the intelligence this girl has to so easily scam people and how smooth it all goes makes my brain hurt. I could never lie that convincingly. I can spot scams easily and I'm getting more and more scammers from online dating when I just want to find love. Good thing is I don't actually send them money or gift cards when they ask for them.
I know it was addressed as to why comparisons dont work legally in Japan, however it's worrisome. Its like crimes against women and children mean a lot less compared to crimes against men. I get that white collar versus criminal crimes are very different. Objectively speaking, why can't they have equal consequences for the damages to the victums?
