My fiancé quit drinking after being diagnosed with A-fib, so I joined him. We now share a non-alcoholic beer sometimes. His skin looks 10 years younger after he quit!
Stop paying to destroy yourself, quit 3 years ago, I'm so happy now, wish I would've never touched that stuff, always thought life would be boring without it, I sure was wrong and you can do it on your own, don't need aa, you can do it on your own, also lets ask Jesus to help us be ready for his return, its only a ticket to eternal life and happiness, hardly nothing, even if he stands me up, I'd obviously rather be ready regardless, what if he does show up.
What hucksters do to our behavior…
After a traumatic stupid event I decided to never drink again
almost 8 months sober. Best decision of my life.
Every single aspect of my life is better. If I can do it, anyone can.
Believe in yourself
Love this video
There is a difference between rubbing alcohol and drinking alcohol. Rubbing alcohol is isopropyl alcohol, which should not be consumed in any quantity, as it is dangerous. Drinking alcohol is ethyl alcohol, which is less dangerous.
Divorce is never the way out, My wife and I have been having issues before I sort out help from a spiritual adviser,i wasn't going to let my marriage of 18years crash
I used to really love drinking, but I gave it up. 🙂
Ho I have to stop drinking Alcohol. I need Help 😢😢😢😢
How do you NOT enable and a person with mental disorder coupled with drug and alcohol addiction.
If I shared this with a friend I'm worried about, she will stop talking to me and drink more. Such a touchy thing. Good episode though.
I am having a problem with alcohol. I was diagnosed with breast cancer May 2023. Stopped drinking during the 5 months of chemo. Had a lumpectomy done in October results showed cancer was gone. But I started drinking again after my lumpectomy. Now new calcifications are showing up again. Doctor is attributing it to hormones, but this makes so much more sense. Thank you for this information. I fully believe it was the alcohol that caused the breast cancer, not solely my hormones. This is life changing information. Thank you so much. Please pray that I can be strong enough to stay the course.
I've been off and on for years. Finally, I recently decided to give a rest for good. 30 days as for tomorrow. I log it in my phone every day. Visually, it also gives me a sense of accomplishment. Even though I gave it up for months at a time before, wrapping my mind around the concept of not drinking every again seems daunting. So, my approach has been one day at a time, which makes it way more manageable. I'm looking forward to the day that it's just an afterthought.
wow all she is saying I have the symptoms
I think ‘hitting rock bottom’ really just means the person needs to see their need to quit. Tough love can simply mean not running around fixing everything for the alcoholic, we can enable the drinker and end up overly sacrificing our lives and peace, trying to fix others. Check Al-Anon to get support
OMG! I'll recommend you DON'T recommend, just anyone, sending this episode to someone!!! Especially if that "someone," is your significant other/alcoholic husband! I'm guessing you realise who gets beaten up or worse, by their significant other, for even SUGGESTING, there may be a drinking problem! Unless you can SAFELY send this episode to an alcoholic partner, for instance, I recommend, you dont, or think seriously about the consequences, of doing so! I for one, wouldn't dream of sending this to my alcoholic partner! Ladies! Life is difficult enough!!! Be safe out there, because along w the physical effects of alcoholism, abusive behaviour SKY ROCKETS, among this group!! Otherwise, thanks for the programme!..👍👍
I see a lot of sober/ alcoholic comments, but what about those who have once a week a drink? How bad is that?
Thank you for this information and motivation.
Since the doctor is an addiction specialist, are some people more apt to get an addiction more than others?
But you dont understand. Alcohol is called spirits. But it opens your pi neal gland. Or third eye.
Some people get hostile or antisocial and darn mean when they drink alcohol.. so i agree its bad to drink alcohol for most earth humans
But its ok for some entitys to drink alcohol to open your 3rd eye like iowaska. But the best thing is never drink a drink of alcohol. Then they will have a better life.
My drinking was associated with anesthetising myself after a week of work. On retirement no need for alcohol.
Many Drs have the attitude that patients won’t change but don’t always realize that many patients WILL change their lifestyle if they understand the consequences long term and have a WHY. But when they only get 10-15minutes with a doctor during an office visit, it’s the system that’s letting them down.
People seem to begin to drink to be social, and others drink to suppress depression and the challenges that daily life can bring.
Alcohol consumption can cause cancer. Refuse it and improve your health.
I drank quite heavily from about the age of 25…mainly wine in the evening…and I must admit it was mainly pleasurable without side effects. Come my late 30s, it became a problem and it was having a really negative effect on my body…insomnia, acid reflux, anxiety, depression, gastritis, fast heart rate…the list goes on. I still drank socially until I had a huge panic attack in a supermarket after drinking a bottle of wine the night before. Slowly but surely I've weaned myself of it and my mental and physical health has improved immeasurably. Now with just one drink, I can feel my body and brain disliking the imbalance it creates. It's basically poison! Now I just enjoy a nice cold alcohol free beer on a warm day and still get a pleasurable feeling. Will drink on the odd occasion (Christmas Day) but the addiction is gone. Sobriety brings a lot of peace and joy guys and girls!
Gave up alcohol 5 years ago.Cutting down doesn’t work.
It was so stressful, managing the guilt, changing the non drinking days to drink days, all the tricks.
I just stopped on 28 November 2019.
I sleep much better, I’m not grumpy in the morning,I’m doing better in my running and cycling training, and I think I’m a better person to be around.
When I’d had too much to drink I used to get aggressive and argumentative. No more.
Congratulations to all you courageous and strong people who have quit this horrible poison! ❤
My mom has been a full-blown alcoholic ever since i was born. It's been 32 years, and she is dying from alcoholism and she won't ever get help. She's 62. I came to the comments hoping to read success stories because i cant help but fantasize and dream about the day that she would be sober and happy. I pray my mother will at least get a few years of sobriety for the first time in her life before she passes. God help her
Craving.. just taking about that feeling today. When I started mounjaro July 22 the craving went away. That medicine stopped craving of all kinds. I'm so grateful. The habit broke, I'm off the med for over a year the craving is gone and I'm grateful.
Thought about it many times but always find a reason to do it
Come on Mel! Less than 200 years ago they used to use the alcohol cabinet to sterilize wounds and use in major surgery to decrease bacteria
Well I thought, finally someone telling the truth about alcohol! BUT you lost my vote, when you said, "that doesn't mean you cant drink any alcohol" (around 15:55), and your reasons thereafter for saying that defeat all that you said beforehand🤨
It's kind of like saying that a little arsenic is okay, OR a little mercury in your mouth is okay (that's a whole other story)
It's poison
I am an emergency medicine physician —So the doctor is keeping it simple I guess but she is absolutely incorrect when saying that rubbing alcohol is the same alcohol in a beverages. Beverages are ethyl alcohol and rubbing or alcohol for disinfecting is isopropyl alcohol as a 3 carbon molecule whereas ethanol is 2 carbons. Methanol os the one carbon form and causes blindness. She is correct that alcoholics in dire straights do sometimes drink hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol and they work similarly in the body (although rubbing alcohol is harder on the stomach. ). This is a small correction but they spent minutes saying it’s exactly the same molecule and I lose confidence when a physician doesn’t say the basics correctly.
“rollercoaster” is the perfect word, Mel
Found, your discussions, very helpful, know someone that, doesn't drink heavily,,,but is a bottle of wine per evening, and does affect walking, balance
I quit alcohol after drinking for years. I feel so much more present, happier, in shape.
What's a Bizillion??
Now that my husband has passed from cirrhosis I've come to admit my alcoholism. No regrets to have poured every drop of alcohol down the sink. I finally kicked out the third person in my 32 year marriage albeit late, but not too late for me! Now I have a furture thanks to AA.plwas consider what I have done. My life is transformed NOW.
Weird my 2 brothers and a sister are all alcoholics . And they been drinking since teen years ! They are now in their 60 s still drinking heavily! I am surprised they have not had liver failure by now.
isopropyl alcohol and ethel.Alcohol are not the same thing this podcast is b*****
A very timely and fitting reminder for us alcoholics.
I'm glad that I'm into sobriety for the third consecutive week and by God's grace I listened to this; so very timely and fitting!
Thank you Lord Jesus and Thank you Holy Spirit for leading me to this podcast.
May you guys remain blessed and may God richly your families with good health and happiness.
I sustained several head injuries, abuse, and near death experiences, due to a narcissistic, negligent alcoholic father and family system.
Eventually drank to cope with the untreated trauma, anxiety and depression.
After five years sober and faithfully working a program of recovery fully, the untreated, unacknowledged issues resurfaced. I felt like a failure.
Thank you for pointing out the trauma, anxiety and depression have to be treated.
Hitting bottom doesn’t have to happen to heal from the traumatic experiences.
Support and outside help in my life now has made all the difference.
I now participate in multiple programs.
Yoga and the 12 steps, being one of them that is finally addressing what a regular 12 step meeting couldn’t.
Those advocating tough love and wishing for you to hit bottom are part of the problem.
Thank you for helping to raise awareness on this issue. 🙏
I work in a hospital, and I will tell you, I see FAR more deaths from alcohol vs. drugs in my facility. 30-40 year olds are dying in droves from cirrhosis. I see it daily. I might have one drug death every three months.
