Just had a cruise on the Norwegian Pearl. NCL is a poor substitute for Carnival, and Celebrity.
If you sail NCL out of Miami, don't expect to sail the Gem. They reserve that for the Sixthman festivals; I know, because I did the Jericho Cruise
. I highly recommend it though.
we sailed on the Viva in Europe last August, and dropped the bags off before heading on the ship, great rooms we had a balcony which we loved coming from Australia it was worth it
the internet as part of the "free at sea" definitely isnt a good deal – u only get 150 minutes which might last a day or two then u have to get the wifi anyway
Thx! After 20 cruises with ncl, u can always drop your bags in a designated venue.
We took one out of Athens through the Greek Islands and ended in Italy last June. It was a disorganized mess, food was barely mediocre except one of the specialty dining restaruants, and the entire crew seemed overworked, especially the bartenders. My 15 year old was served a Vodka and Tonic accidentally- she asked for club soda. Rides to shore were a mess, no information from working crew. We have used Carnival and Disney in the past- NCL was by far well below the level of any cruise I have taken. Example, telling an officer in the hall that the phone in our room was broken along with 3 other issues.."Call customer service", was the response. When I pointed out that one of the issues I had just mentioned was the phone, he told me to go wait in line at Customer Service. We will not be going back. It is interesting to hear that some people had good experiences, we met people on board that said it was their second try on NCL and a repeat bad experience.
NCL is a bait n switch experience. Beware buying anything at Guest Services. Their a 3 card Monty operation.
This is someone with a very limited business acumen, zero understanding of the hospitality industry and finance. I would disregard this authors math and credibility with booking cruises. You can go online and read all the lines policies, obviously he did not choose to read any of the cruise lines policies and just checked the I agree to terms and conditions box. Then he decided to make this video for others like him who do not read the terms and conditions then go and bash the company for it. If you cannot afford NCL which is not even the most luxurious line like, Conrad, Crystal, Virigin, go cruise Carnival with their cheap well beverages and loud crowds. Or maybe go sail on a canoe on your local river. Don't be cheap. The people who work on these cruises bust their butts with little compensation and gratitude to keep you happily sailing on Daddys credit card for a week.
Going on my first NCL cruise ( SPIRIT ) in a few weeks time and got the FREE AT SEA Package.
What costs am I going to incur at the end of a 9 day cruise and what currency is used onboard in the Far East ?
I'm not a heavy drinker.
Last cruise I was on was Marella and EVERYTHING was included tips , tax , the whole lot .
No nasty surprises at the end .
We must’ve been on one of the older ships our cabin was the most depressing I’ve ever sailed in. Public spaces had clearly had a bit of a facelift.
they ended the so called "free at sea" drink package…it's now called "More at sea" because they charge you over $400.00 in "gratuities"…and another $150.00 or so in gratuities for the "free" specialty dining…NCL…finding new ways to reach inside your wallet and extract everything…
Ask and people will tell you.
Relax, just cruise! Some of Your comparisons are trivial. Perhaps youve done enough cruising.
Big 3, I'll never cruise on Carnival or RCCL again.
what about the epic
The More at Sea drink package for $30 per day seems to be a good deal. I'll find out in March when we cruise.
Yep! I learned to stick with Carnival, Princess and Holland America! THX, Always enjoy your videos!!
Repent before it’s to late Jesus loves you
I hate this guys opinion. He belongs on Carnival.
After Carnival ruined Princess , we decided to change cruise lines. Carnival is for young people, and they decided to rework princess too. Big mistake.
I ACTUALLY HATE THE NEW PRIMA AND VIVA STYLE SHIPS.
It seems like NCL has decided to make large spaces smaller, more intimate, and "modern" (this guy says "posh")…..I actually can't stand modernity in styling. I like the feel of large ships with large spaces here and there. Examples being large theaters, or larger main pool decks. Prima and Viva ruin that.
NCL has always been my favorite since I started cruising in 2005. I am just 3 points to Gold Tier!! I just returned from a 7-day cruise of the Caribbean in July, and I've already booked a 12-day Mediterranean cruise for May 2025. This will also be my first time to stay in one of their Solo rooms; their "exclusive for only Solo passengers lounge" is what sold me. I've cruised once on Carnival (never again!) and once on Celebrity, but I keep going back to NCL. You can't beat their signature Freestyle cruising!!
NCL was my first cruise just recently. As far as the "dragging my bag around.." I dropped mine at Bliss and picked it up when our room was ready. I don't recommend getting there too early though as NCL is cutting costs -which means that they are a bare bones staff and therefore it takes them a while to get stuff ready, since instead of a team of people doing things -it's either only one or two staff members.
The Free at Sea has it's "gotcha's" – the drinks package is great! the WIFI? not so much. And their WIFI infrastructure is insufficient and poor. It's constantly going down. the shore excursion credit sounds good, but is $50 off for the Second person – and with most of the excursions well over $150 a person , it's a meager coupon. I've heard nothing but horror stories about their airfare coordination.
So for our next cruise, I sat down and unchecked ALL the free at sea package offers (it was a promo that came with the room) did a lot of math AND then decided to keep it anyway- JUST for the drinks package. Since, if you don't get the FAS and decide to get a drinks package later- you are paying over $1000 just for drinking. In fact, you are paying almost as much for the gratuity on the drinks package as you would for a soda package with gratuity for 2 people. (currently the soda package would be $210 for 7 days for 2 people including gratuity, the FAS gratuity on our sailing for both of us is $305.20)
I love the smaller ships….not as hectic as big ships
We gave NCL a second chance this summer and regretted it. The crew were not happy, especially the food service crew. Service was slow, impersonal and terribly slow. Holland America has much more class and always happy, helpful crew.
Hate tipping it’s a complete con if the us paid better wages and dident rely on the public to pay the wages,no wonder there are so many fat cats in the us,flawed democracy
newer ships, newer ships: better, faster, bigger blabla
Just got back from 7 days on the Gen, not Impressed. Food was sub par and the boat was waaay too crowded.
Does NCL have cornhole boards?
The food is way better on NCL. I sailed RC in May on Independence of the Seas the food was horrible!
We are going on our first Norwegian cruise in 2026 out of Philly on the jewel. HAVE sailed on royal and carnival before.
NCL is the best. We love the midsize ships, DAWN, STAR, GEM etc!!
My first cruise was with my grandma ncl Mexican Riviera very nice
Some of your complaints about NCL seems petty!!
If anyone wanna cruise with norwegian, please think about gratuity, the gratuity you pay does not go to crew member especially stateroom steward fyi stateroom steward salary below 1600 usd per month

Being someone who has cruised Norwegian quite a bit…some of your down points are actually plus's. There are more free restaurants than just the buffet and the main dining rooms. As for the Free at Sea…great deal when you look at it. Yes you MIGHT pay a bit more than other cruise lines but the service is there. We took a Carnival cruise one to compare….the lets get drunk as fast as we can and stay smashed crowd was not for us! Trust me those other cruise lines have their way of getting your money from you too!
NCL Encore, was the worst cruise I ever have taken. Food was awful, entertainment, just as bad
On Ncl Prima may 2025 Reykjavik departure
I like the comparison to Carnivals drink package price. I am surprised Carnival does not let passengers bring their own coolers on board. Carnival is the Budweiser of cruise lines so you get what you pay for.
I like NCL ships and activities but, their standard food sucks. It is worse than any other cruise line. Carnival and Princess have much better food and wait staff for dinner. I do like NCL and if you want good food be prepared to pay extra in specialty restaurants. Nickel & Dime, Nickel & Dime.
I love it that NCL has less kids on the ship. It’s more adult driven than carnival ( Walmart ) and royal carribean ( target) . The free at sea fits us 100 percent. The specialty dining is great. NCL doesn’t need Shaq or Guy Fierw to promote their ships. The Haven suites are a hell of a lot better than the suite in carnival and royal Caribbean.
